On 8th June 2024, Arthritis Foundation Malaysia hosted a remarkably successful patient education talk with the support from Sandoz Malaysia, focusing on the use of biologics and biosimilars in treating rheumatic and arthritic disorders. The event was attended by over 40 patients and caregivers, gaining valuable insights from the two esteemed expert speakers.
At the start, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fariz bin Yahya delivered an informative presentation on biologics and biosimilars for inflammatory arthritis. He emphasised that biosimilars are not generic medications but affordable alternatives to biologics. Dr. Fariz also highlighted the potential for more patients to benefit from advanced therapies and the potential reduction in healthcare costs due to the availability of biosimilars. Next, Puan Supiah Suli discussed the essential role of medical social work services and the support available throughout the patient’s journey, including emotional support and counselling, discharge planning, financial assistance and practical assistance.
The event also marked the launch of the ‘Sandoz Biosimilars Patient Education Leaflet’, showcasing the company’s commitment to patient care and leadership in the biosimilars sector. The event was well received and praised by attendees for its exceptional content and the insightful knowledge it offered.
