Living with Arthritis

Introduction
Doing normal daily task at home can be problem if you have arthritis or rheumatism. You may find that movement is restricted due to pain, stiffness of joints and muscle weakness. You may also need help in carrying out some of your daily activities.

Use Self-Help Devices Where Necessary
Assistive devices are designed to take stress off your joints. Using these help you to conserve energy, thereby reducing stress on your muscles and joints. Activities of daily living are made easier and more efficient. Self-help devices assist by:
  • Keeping joints and muscles in the optimum position for performance of a function
  • Providing leverage to give you more power
  • Extending your reach if your rage of motion is limited


This article gives you guidelines on how to use your joints wisely. Joints protection often means changing old habits and this may take perseverance and time. However, the prolonged good functioning of your joints will be well worth the effort!
